Hope in the Darkness
Scripture References
-
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.[a]
2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. 3 Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” There was an evening, and there was a morning: one day.
6 Then God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters, separating water from water.” 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above the expanse. And it was so. 8 God called the expanse “sky.”[b] Evening came and then morning: the second day.
9 Then God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry land “earth,” and the gathering of the water he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.

26 Then God said, “Let us make man[e] in[f] our image, according to our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, the whole earth, and the creatures that crawl[g] on the earth.”
27 So God created man
in his own image;
he created him in the image of God;
he created them male and female.
Our world has always needed a hero.
Let’s think back to the very beginning. Without God, the earth was formless, empty, and dark (Genesis 1:1-2). God shows up and changes the scenery: the earth shifts, land appears, and He turns the lights on with His words (Gen. 1:3-10). He had voice command technology in the beginning. If we continue to pay attention to the story, in the beginning, as God is creating things, He is also creating a function for each of the things He created.
Interdependence was sewn into the fabric of creation before things were tainted by the evil one. In other words, all of creation benefits when we work together. In verse 5, nothing is growing. And the scriptures say it’s because there was no rain and there was no human to cultivate the soil.
The world has always needed someone to help it be its best.
God creates a man and a woman as an extension of Himself (Gen. 1:26-27). He tells them to take care of the world they were placed in. He placed them in a particular region, in a particular place, to cultivate land and protect it together. He sent them to multiply the good He had established on the earth—our stories aren’t accidental. God has desired to include us in His goodness from the beginning.
God created humans to protect and improve the world He rescued from the void.
Remember darkness filled the earth. The earth was void, empty, formless. Then, God stepped in and made something out of nothing—literally. And if that wasn’t enough, He invited others to join in the redemption of this ancient territory. Allowing them to team up with the God of the universe to bless the world.
Be encouraged. Even if your life seems out of shape, empty, and dark, you are in the perfect position for God to do what only He can do!
Application:
Do you believe God can form something in the dark areas of your life? Do you believe He can create something beautiful? Allow the light in. Give Him an opportunity to hover over your heart as you pray and acknowledge your need for His creative power.
Prayer
Lord God, open my eyes. Help me to see your creative power. Give me the wisdom to submit all of the emptiness, all of the darkness, and all of the areas in my life that need to be reshaped by you. Help me to recognize that You are the true Savior of the world. Help me to grow in understanding of who You are and who You want me to be. Help me to endure the process as I trust You for whatever the results will be. Thank you for stepping in when I needed You the most. In Jesus name,
Thank you for reading.
Until next time, grace and peace fam.
